Basic Technique Example — Na (Grasping) Technique
“Na” refers to a Tuina technique that uses the thumb together with the fingers—either the finger surfaces or specifically the thumb with the index and middle fingers—as the main points of contact. Force is applied symmetrically in a rhythmic manner: tightening and releasing, grasping and letting go, targeting specific acupoints or body areas.
The key operational points of the Na technique include:
• Relaxing the shoulders, letting the elbows hang naturally, and suspending the wrist.
• The movement should be led primarily by coordination between the wrist joint and the finger joints.
• The applied force should be symmetrical, alternating between tension and release.
• The targeted acupoint or area must be accurate, and the pressure should be steady and substantial.
• Begin with light pressure, gradually increasing.
• Avoid holding your breath or applying sudden force.
• The entire movement should be smooth, controlled, and rhythmic.
