Benefits of Tai Chi and Testimonials!!!

Many know Tai Chi as an ancient Chinese practice that has gained popularity worldwide for its numerous health benefits. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced practitioner, Tai Chi offers a wealth of advantages for your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. These benefits include but are not limited to:

  1. Improved Physical Health: Tai Chi is a gentle form of exercise that involves slow, flowing movements and deep breathing. It helps to improve balance, flexibility, and strength, which are essential for overall physical health, especially as we age. Regular practice of Tai Chi has been shown to reduce the risk of falls, increase cardiovascular fitness, and improve joint mobility.

  2. Stress Reduction: In today's fast-paced world, stress has become a common part of our lives. Tai Chi is a great way to relax and reduce stress. Its slow, meditative movements, combined with deep breathing, help to calm the mind and release tension from the body. Regular practice of Tai Chi has been shown to lower cortisol levels, the hormone responsible for stress, and promote a sense of calmness and well-being.

  3. Mental Clarity and Cognitive Function: Tai Chi is often referred to as "meditation in motion" as it requires focus and concentration. The mind-body connection cultivated through Tai Chi practice promotes mental clarity and mindfulness, which can enhance cognitive function and improve memory. Studies have shown that regular Tai Chi practice may help to reduce the risk of developing cognitive decline and improve cognitive performance in older adults.

  4. Emotional Well-being: Tai Chi is a holistic practice that addresses the mind, body, and spirit. It promotes emotional well-being by reducing anxiety, and depression, and promoting a positive outlook on life. The slow, graceful movements of Tai Chi, combined with deep breathing and mindfulness, help to balance emotions, reduce negative emotions, and increase positive emotions.

  5. Enhanced Immune Function: Tai Chi has been shown to boost the immune system by improving the flow of energy or "qi" in the body. Regular practice of Tai Chi helps to strengthen the body's natural defense mechanisms, making it more resilient to illnesses and diseases.

  6. Social Connection: Tai Chi is often practiced in groups or classes, providing an opportunity for social connection and community engagement. Being part of a supportive community can have a positive impact on mental health and well-being, reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness.

  7. All Ages and Fitness Levels: One of the best things about Tai Chi is that it is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. Whether you're young or old, fit or not-so-fit, Tai Chi can be adapted to your abilities and needs. It is a low-impact exercise that is gentle on the joints and muscles, making it ideal for people with physical limitations or chronic conditions.

Wei Li's Testimonial

I started to learn Tai Chi with Dr. Wu about 3 months ago. It has become my new passion. I practice Tai Chi on my own every day and on Saturdays, I practice with several fellow Tai Chi practitioners.

For me, the benefits of practicing Tai Chi are on many levels.

First, on the body level, I noticed that practicing Tai Chi helped healing my body. I have had some ache and pain at the lower back/hip area for many years. When I practice Tai Chi, I can feel that that area is getting the stretch and movement it needed to clear the blockages. My lower back/hip has significantly improved. After practicing a set of complete form of Fengyang Tai Chi, my hip and knees feel more flexible and more open.

Second, Tai Chi has helped with my practice as a Tui Na practitioner. Practicing Tai Chi is to learn how to better use your body. It helped me realize what Dr. Wu has been teaching us about Wu Wei, the effortless power. For example, when I stand using the bow stance from Tai Chi while doing Tui Na, I noticed that when I let the power coming from the feet, I am using much less effort. However, the energy actually goes deeper for better healing.

Last but not least, Tai Chi to me is also a spiritual practice. Tai Chi is meditation in motion. When I practice Tai Chi, I become the observer. I watch my body flow with the Chi.

I feel a sense of internal joy when my body moves in harmony with Chi.

Even though I am only a beginner in Tai Chi practice, from what I have experienced, I believe Tai Chi is a great way to improve our whole being on all levels, body, mind and spirit.

Thank you, Dr. Wu, for your guidance on this wonderful journey of Tai Chi!
