Gang Mei Gen (岗梅根), a Potent Antiviral
Lian Qiao (连翘), which is the forsythia plant, and Jin Yin Hua (金银花), which is honeysuckle, are two herbs that have commonly been used to combat viral infections, and they have become very popular in the last few years. However, a lesser known herb, Gang Mei Gen, seems to actually be more potent and is less expensive and more widely available.
It is traditionally used in TCM in the following ways:
To treat chest obstruction and labored respiration caused by blood and qi stagnation in the chest.
To support Lung qi and treat chest congestion arising from Lung qi deficiency.
To clear heat, eliminate toxins, and promote the generation of body fluids. Clinical applications include lung infection and breast abscess.
It is important to note that Gang Mei Gen is cold in temperature, making it ideal for treating damp heat conditions. However, it should be balanced by more warming herbs if consumed by someone with a cold constitution.
