Lion's Gate Portal Forage Walk in the Woods with Madelene Funk & friends
On Sunday, August 8th we joined Madelene Funk of Mad Funk Earth Medicine to go on a guided forage walk near her residence. She has lots of insight and experience foraging wild mushrooms such as reishi (ling zhi), chaga, turkey tail, and is known in her inner circles as the creator of one of the best herbal mushroom teas in the game (according to Dr. Ming Wu himself). She forages everything herself, and even used foraged mushrooms to support her healing during a time she was battling cancer. Today she is dedicated to teaching others how they can do the same for themselves and is the owner of her own small business appropriately named Mad Funk Earth Medicine.
Sunday, August 8th has an extreme spiritual significance in astrology. It is considered to be the best time to set new intentions and manifestations because the energy associated with the number 8 is extremely supportive of these energies. You can read more about that here.
She battled breast cancer and shared how she eventually transitioned out of western medicine. She has been cancer free for 26 years. She treated herself with plants, food and herbal concoctions and believes fully in their powerful abilities to heal. In this video, she shares that two of her loved ones got cancer as well and explains what they went through in their journeys. You can watch her talk about it in the video below.
She also explains how she makes chocolate infused with mushrooms with no dairy or sugar! It is truly inspiring to see how she educated herself and is still learning about the world. Her passion and curiosity about life and nature helps us remember that there is so much we still don’t know about the world, no matter how much we may already know. Her story reminds us that here is always something to look forward to in life.
If you want to support Mad Funk Earth Medicine, you can reach out through Dr Wu while we await her store to open, she offers group guided forage walks and makes/sells organic salves. She is also certified in cupping & gua sha and is currently working on her Tui Na certificate. We are grateful and excited to have her in our community!
In the video below, she shows us how she makes her wild caught mushroom tea and how to brew it. She says that it usually lasts her about a month, but you can also learn more by clicking the video below. Please enjoy the videos, and feel free to look at the photo gallery as well!
